Journal Entry 3: Two Kinds

Everyone is Stubborn

In Two Kinds, June says she wants to stop her mom’s “foolish pride.” But honestly? They both have issues.

First, the mom. She’s obsessed with making people think June is a “prodigy.” She literally makes stuff up, telling her friend that June hears music while doing dishes or whatever. She just wants to look good.

But June is the same. When the talent show comes up, she gets this weird confidence. She barely practiced with her teacher, but she still thought she was gonna be great just because. She thought she was naturally gifted so she didn’t need to work. Then she got on stage, started playing, and it was a total disaster.

Basically, the mom wanted the glory, and June wanted the easy way out. They were both being stubborn.
